Single & Double Bodied Torsion Springs
Torsion springs offer resistance to twisting or torque action and are usually close-wound like the extension spring but with minimum initial tension. There are two types: single bodied and double-bodied torsion springs. The spring legs/ends ultimately deliver the force required in the mechanism. So we can configure custom spring ends to suit the application.
Torsion springs are usually designed to close the application so careful attention must be paid to give enough clearance for the shaft or arbor that is going through the springs. When defining a torsion spring, the relative position between the legs is critical to apply the necessary force required.
The wire in the torsion spring experience bending force in contrast to the torsion force in the compression springs. We can also design torsion springs with square or rectangular wire if required.
Torsion springs are commonly seen in clipboards, counterbalance mechanisms, ratchets, and many other machine components. For more information and tips on torsion springs, visit our blog post!
